Lightning Ridge in Australia is known as “the Black Opal Capital of the World.” Although, white and Crystal Opal are also found in Lightning Ridge, the black Opal that comes out of the ground there is the most sought after Opal in the world. There are varying shades of Black Opal rated from N1 to N9. N1 being the darkest and N9 being white base. The white base that comes from Lightning Ridge is just as beautiful and stable as the black Opal.
