Lightning Ridge in Australia is known as “the Black Opal Capital of the World.” Although top white and Crystal Opal are also found in Lightning Ridge, the black Opal that comes out of the ground there is the most sought after Opal in the world. There are varying shades of Opal rated from N1 to N9. N1 being the darkest black and N9 being white base. The white base and crystal opal that comes from Lightning Ridge is just as beautiful and stable as the black Opal.
I took these pictures with my iPhone using a standard desktop lamp. No enhancements were made to the photos at all.
